The collision occurred in East Hartford around 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16 near Exit 56.
Connecticut State Police identified the victim as Yomar Berrios, age 18, of East Hartford.
Berrios was a passenger in a 2005 Honda Accord that was traveling in the westbound lanes behind a Freightliner Ms 106 Medium Duty truck when it collided with the back of the vehicle, state police said.
Police said for "an unknown reason," the Honda hit the truck and then veered across the left center lane of the highway, entered the left lane, veered back into the left-center lane, and re-entered the center lane.
The Honda then slammed into the rear of a tractor-trailer and came to rest in the center lane, state police said.
The drivers of both trucks were not injured and declined medical attention.
The driver of the Honda suffered minor injuries and was transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment.
Berrios received life-threatening injuries and was transported to Hartford Hospital where he was pronounced dead, state police said.

In addition, anyone with a dashcam that was driving in the area a the time of the crash is asked to contact Dean.
The crash remains under investigation.
